Government School Creates a Cholan World Record by Drawing a 133-Foot-Tall Pongal Pot during Pongal Celebrations
Students of the Government Higher Secondary School in Thiruvathavur, near Melur in Madurai district, celebrated this year’s Tamil festival Pongal and Thiruvalluvar Day in a grand manner.
In honor of the 133 chapters in the Thirukkural, 133 students and teachers collaboratively created a massive 133-foot-tall and 70-foot-wide colorful kolam (traditional drawing) of a Pongal pot, complete with a stove, on the ground. They completed this extraordinary feat in 1,330 seconds to symbolize the 1,330 verses in the Thirukkural.
This world record attempt, organized with the full cooperation of the school’s headmaster, Mr. Thannayiramurthi, and teachers Saravanan, Madakkulam Vijayakumar, and others, was officially recognized as a Cholan World Record. The event took place in the presence of Dr. Neelamegam Nimalan, the founder of the Cholan Book of World Records, coordinator Mr. Perumal Chellathurai, international general secretary Mrs. Arthiga and Mrs.N.Lalitha. The school was awarded a medal and an appreciation certificate for their accomplishment.
This extraordinary effort by the students and teachers, transforming the annual Pongal celebration into a world-record event, has garnered widespread praise from the public and various communities.
Significantly, the attempt was planned on the first day and successfully executed the following day, making it a unique world record in itself.
