COLOMBO: Demonstrating exceptional talent, determination and intensive training, 6-year-old Jeyhari, a Grade 1 student of St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, has achieved a Cholan World Record by completing the 50-metre breaststroke in 1 minute and 2 seconds.
A Remarkable Achievement at a Young Age
Jeyhari, the son of Raghunathan and Lakshmi, who reside in Colombo, has shown a keen interest in swimming from a very young age. Recognising his enthusiasm and natural ability, his parents have continuously encouraged him to develop his skills in the sport.
Accordingly, Jeyhari joined Benz Aquatics, the swimming training centre of St. Benedict’s College, where he underwent systematic and intensive swimming training.
In particular, senior swimming coach Kasun Warnaka De Silva, who identified Jeyhari’s exceptional ability in the breaststroke technique, provided him with continuous and intensive training.
The World Record Attempt
Based on Jeyhari’s outstanding ability in the breaststroke technique compared with other young swimmers, his coach believed that he had the potential to achieve a world record.
With the full support and cooperation of the college administration, the Cholan World Record attempt was subsequently held on the morning of 30 September at the swimming pool of St. Benedict’s College.
The record attempt was conducted in the presence of officials and adjudicators from the Cholan Book of World Records. The attempt was directly monitored by Sri Naga Vani Raja, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Branch; Captain H.K. Indranath Perera, General Secretary; and Major Rukshan, Executive Committee Member and District President for Matara, along with other officials.
Completes 50 Metres in 1 Minute 2 Seconds
During the record attempt, 6-year-old Jeyhari successfully completed the 50-metre breaststroke in 1 minute and 2 seconds.
After monitoring and evaluating his performance in accordance with the prescribed rules and regulations, the adjudicators of the Cholan Book of World Records officially announced that his achievement had been recognised and registered as a Cholan World Record.
Record-Breaking Student Honoured
Following his achievement, Jeyhari was congratulated and honoured by the administration of St. Benedict’s College, his swimming coaches, fellow students, and the adjudicators and officials of the Cholan Book of World Records.
In recognition of his achievement, Jeyahari was presented with a framed certificate, gold medal, commemorative plaque, official seal, and record documentation file, among other honours.
Jayahari’s achievement at such a young age in the field of swimming has brought pride to his parents, coaches, and St. Benedict’s College. His accomplishment also serves as an inspiring example and a source of encouragement for the younger generation interested in swimming.
